Apps and Technology
Just decluttered my dongle drawer. ๐ป๐
I love Appleโs Focus modes, but wish they were a bit more intuitive. ๐ป๐
Managed to do the โKudosโ button all on my lonesome. Iโm a computerer genius and plan on hacking into the pentagon after lunch. ๐ป
The cable tidy box has arrived. It makes the MacBook stand a little cramped, so Iโll do away with it for a while. Patty the Sasquatch and the yeti look great illuminated against the Nanoleaf hexagons. ๐ป๐๐
Stand down, Iโve ordered a cable tidy box. ๐๐ป
Iโm overthinking cable management again. ๐๐ป
Micro.blog seems like the right place to ask about cable management (filth!). Despite being a small space, my writing area is getting untidy looking with cables and itโs doing my head in. ๐ป
Well I finally got all my Apple devices syncing in Safari, but lost a load of research and ideas that were on my iPad. I swapped from Google WiFi to Sky and they synced almost immediately after restarts and suchlike. Gutted about the deleted stuff, but will check iCloud to see if theyโre there. ๐ป
I tried to get clever with Focus modes and ended up overcomplicating matters, missing calls from a number I didnโt allow access, but not seeing the attempted contact until later. Will have to have a rethink (and any advice is welcomed). ๐ป
Iโve tried every bit of advice to try and get my Safari reading list and bookmarks to sync, but have now given up. iPad Mini refuses to sync with iPhone and MacBook, the latter two maintaining the same saved information and the Mini refusing to share. I have the majority of info on the Mini. ๐ป
Had quite a productive day. Learned that not all quotation marks are the same, cleared out DEVONThink, tidied up Notes and redownloaded Native Instruments plug-ins. ๐ป๐
Thatโs DEVONThink emptied, with hundreds of bits of information split between Notes, Safari (Bookmarks & Reading List) and photos in the Apple ecosystem. Itโs a great piece of kit, but as I use my iPhone and iPad mostly, I canโt afford to renew DEVONThink To Go. ๐ป๐๐
Iโm going through my long abandoned DEVONThink and deleting/distributing everything I dumped in there over a couple of years. Itโs mostly ideas and research for all the books I plan on writing, but always put off. ๐ป๐
Readwise and Reader - Irreplacable?
After cancelling almost every subscription in favour of the Apple ecosystem, Iโm struggling to find a workflow to replicate the majesty of Readwise and Reader. Iโve almost, but not quite, got Notes to try and keep things in place, but itโs not the same. I know Notes has its place in my workflow, but it canโt do the things Readwise and Reader can in bringing those long forgotten pieces of text to the forefront and doing it so unintrusively. ๐ป๐
I think Iโm on the cusp of finally streamlining my bits, bobs and email within the Apple ecosystem. Also, the farmer has been spreading slurry. ๐ป
Ordered a load of geeky stickers for my MacBook Air. ๐ป
โIf everyone on Micro.blog installed IOS17 Beta, then jumped off a mountain - would you do it too?โ โYes. Yes I would.โ๐ป
Another Google Home update, still no support for Nest Protect. Oh, and it turned off all notifications for my doorbell as well, which is handy. Trying to find how to turn notifications back on is like a quest in itself. ๐ป
After seeing @Vincent achieve โInbox Zeroโ (and my own quest to move away from Hey email) Iโve been digging a bit more in the iCloud Mail system and think the aliases, and automatic filing could well be a good system for me. ๐ป
Although itโs nice to have it, Iโm not sure the cross-posting from Micro.blog is doing anything other than confuse me. ๐ป๐
