Iโ€™m waiting for a delivery. Time has stopped in my little bubble.

Iโ€™m wearing a hat with a bobble and Iโ€™m off on the school run. Wish me luck.

Just received my first agent rejection. Am I a proper writer, now?

NaNoWriMo - Week Two.

30,008 words down in just under two weeks so I am slightly ahead of the curve. In the grand tradition of the affectionately named vomit draft the story is all over the place - but thatโ€™s OK, itโ€™s meant to be.

You canโ€™t get out backwards. Youโ€™ve gotta go forwards to go backwards - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

By now in previous attempts, Iโ€™ve given up. The story isnโ€™t good enough, Iโ€™m refining words written in previous days and not progressing forwards. This year, Iโ€™m sticking to the mantra of moving ever forwards, even if I have to drag the words out and kick the story down the proverbial road. Iโ€™ll be honest, the last two days have been hell. I think Iโ€™ve peaked too early with a dramatic scene, but Iโ€™m keeping it in and ramping up the drama from here. Thatโ€™s my challenge because safe is boring. Put characters through hell, thatโ€™s what readers want to see.

How am I going to do that? Absolutely no idea, to be honest.

Am I worried? Absolutely. I know my ending, but Iโ€™m not sure how to sustain another 20,000 words to get there. Truthfully, I think there are scenes still to be written in and among those already typed. If I come-up short, Iโ€™ll still get to those 50,000 words.

Iโ€™m surprising myself with a lot of ideas and dialogue that are exposing character traits that didnโ€™t occur in the, frankly, chaotic planning I did beforehand. I think if, no, when I do this again I will plan more thoroughly.

All in all, Iโ€™m happy.

My MacBook, having been fine at 1:30pm, reset to 2020 and the settings/apps I had then. It was awfully slow, restarted when I pressed the button, and was fine again. I suspect my son may have pressed something, but Iโ€™m a bit flummoxed. Any ideas?
