Facebook is teetering on the edge of deactivation.

@bensouthwood.me I know, the only thing keeping me there is the writing group. I haven’t really enjoyed it for a while and there was a message this morning essentially asking for payment in return for not getting your stuff stolen.

@BenSouthwood The only Meta product I still have installed is WhatsApp, purely because there's <5 people on there who I communicate there and only there.

@andycarolan I’m part of a lovely writing group on FB, but deactivated Insta and Threads earlier this week. There was a very irritating message from Meta this morning, essentially ‘pay a subscription or we’ll steal your stuff’, which I just closed.

@andycarolan I’m beginning to think I imagined it, but know I didn’t. I’ll wait for it to pop up again, it was such an odd, sinister, message. No one else has mentioned it. :-/

@BenSouthwood Well, it kinda makes sense. Meta is an odd sinister company!

@andycarolan Increasingly so. It’s odd that one becomes accustomed to scrolling through so much stuff you’re not interested in to get the posts you’ve actually followed. I’ll concentrate on Micro.blog and cross-posting to Bluesky.

@BenSouthwood It's all so very easy to miss the small print. We are fed so much information now, it's impossible to sit there and read through everything... and I think they know that.
Oddly enough, a new EULA appeared when I logged into Fortnite earlier. It's impossible to scroll through and absorb the whole thing!
Fedi is definitely the way forward!
Wow. It's really going the way of Twitter. Much as I love the writers group, I couldn't stay there.
You won't be the only one, I'd say. If I hadn't left when I did, it would have been with the new policy on LGBTQ+ people. 1930s Germany all over again 😡

@bensouthwood.me I think I’ll spend the week trying to follow up bands/pages here and joining mailing lists. I’ll miss the Burnley fan-pages, but that will take off here in time.
